蜻蜓点水 泛涟漪 is a Chinese saying that means: a dragonfly need only skim the surface of the water to create a cascade of ripples. This was the theme of the evening at the Wings Of Change Cocktail Hour, an event that SIDRA hosted in honour of the occasion of the 24th World Forum of Mediation Centres on 13 October 2017. The Wings of Change Cocktail Hour served as the launch of SIDRA’s Dragonfly branding. Professor Nadja Alexander, Academic Director and CEO, welcomed the international dispute resolution community to Singapore and invited the gathering to consider the dragonfly:
‘Dragonflies are exceptionally agile: able to instantaneously change direction mid-flight, hover perfectly in space, and even fly sideways and backwards. They possess the rare quality of 360-degree vision, but they are able to selectively focus with razor-sharp accuracy, and dragonflies can use that vision to see colours the human eye cannot even perceive. A dragonfly need only to lightly skim upon the surface of the water to create a cascade of ripples: the lightest touch, creating a world of change. SIDRA believes that it can impact the world of dispute resolution by acting as the dragonfly: creating programmes for today’s world and tomorrow’s generation that are agile and proactive, providing thought leadership that is impactful and insightful, and envisioning the dispute resolution world with 360-degree vision in ways that have not yet been imagined. All with the lightest touch.’
Professor William Ury of the Harvard Program on Negotiation provided keynote remarks through a pre-recorded video.
