Professional Mediation Skills: Cross-Border Mediation

Did you know that Singapore did S$967.1 billion of international trade in merchandise in 2017? Or, that international trade in services accounted for S$463.3 billion? Or, that 15% of enterprises in Singapore are foreign-owned?  All that transnational business adds up to global opportunity – and global risk! The fact is that many businesses and service providers are simply not prepared for the complexities of managing cross-border conflict or disputes when they arise. Dispute resolution providers in Singapore today need to be prepared to meet this need, and cross-border mediation is increasingly part of the solution.

Professional Mediation Skills: Cross Border Mediation is a 40-hour mediator accreditation programme, jointly offered by SIDRA and Singapore Management University School of Law, and in partnership with the Singapore International Mediation Institute. It is designed to help you become an expert accredited cross-border mediator.

This course will prepare participants to provide mediation and conflict resolution services across the full range of cross-border and transnational disputes commonly experienced by parties and stakeholders in today’s globally connected world. Participants in the course will learn directly from Singapore’s leading mediation experts about foundational theories of conflict and negotiation, various models of mediation, mediation styles and skills, and how to build a mediation practice in Singapore. Participants will receive personal, tailored feedback from a mediation coach during intensive coaching sessions, and will be exposed to a range of roleplays and cross-border scenarios designed to engage their new skills and enhance their understanding of conflict and mediation dynamics in this emerging area of dispute resolution.

Participants who successfully complete the course and the accompanying assessment become automatically eligible for Singapore International Mediation Institute Level 1 Accreditation, which provides a pathway to international certification through the International Mediation Institute. SIDRA manages your accreditation process from start to finish.
